Chaviva High School’s Integrated Project-Based Learning (IPBL) program is a unique educational experience designed to develop students’ critical thinking, collaboration, and research skills while connecting Torah learning with contemporary academic disciplines. Aligned with Chaviva’s commitment to holistic education and the development of both Torah values and academic skills, IPBL instills in students the skills necessary to approach the world with a curious and critical eye and navigate the 21st century as educated, productive, Jewish women. This year’s theme, Choice, invited students to examine the nature, processes, limitations, and implications of choice, which will empower them to make educated and productive decisions.
Over several weeks, students studied choice through multiple lenses, including science, psychology, ethics, Torah thought, free will, and the concept of being chosen. They explored questions such as how the brain impacts decision-making, how emotions influence behavior, and how ethical frameworks shape moral choices. Through this process, students developed a layered understanding of choice in both everyday life and Jewish thought.
Students then worked in carefully formed project teams to develop research questions, conduct guided inquiry using Torah and secular sources, and produce both research papers and annotated bibliographies. They chose between two pathways: Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), focused on deep exploration of guiding questions, and Project-Based Learning (PBL), focused on creating tangible products such as decision-making guides, podcasts, and digital tools.
Throughout the process, students refined skills in collaboration, communication, and revision, supported by structured feedback and peer review. Collaboration Days further enriched their learning through interdisciplinary sessions led by faculty and guest speakers, exploring topics such as habits and decision-making, ethical dilemmas, and the Torah perspective on choice.
The program culminated in Presentation Day and the IPBL Showcase Night, where students shared their work with families and the broader community. Guests were able to engage directly with students, explore their projects, and experience the depth of learning that took place throughout the process. Click here to view our IPBL program.
IPBL reflects Chaviva’s commitment to meaningful, interdisciplinary learning that integrates academic rigor with Torah values, while preparing students to think deeply, communicate effectively, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
