At Chaviva, learning is designed to go beyond mastering content. Across disciplines, students are challenged to ask questions, engage with ideas, and consider how what they learn shapes the way they think, live, and grow.
In 11th-grade Chumash, students explored the idea of a paradigm and how the assumptions we carry influence our decisions. Through their learning about Korach, they reflected on how even intelligent people can reach mistaken conclusions when their perspective is distorted, leading to thoughtful conversations about self-awareness and decision-making.
Questions of values and priorities continued in 11th-grade Kesuvim, where students learning Shir Hashirim discussed the tension between comfort and spiritual aspiration. Through an interactive classroom activity, students considered where they place their focus and reflected on the difference between daily habits and long-term goals. Students also found opportunities to make learning personal and actionable.
In 10th-grade Navi, students learned the words “chazak v’nischazek” and transformed the lesson into handwritten messages of encouragement for friends and family members who could use strength and support. Meanwhile, in 11th-grade Navi, students slowed down their study of Shemoneh Esrei, spending time each week exploring a single beracha and uncovering individual takeaways from shared text.
General studies classrooms reflected this same emphasis on deeper understanding and application. In 11th-grade Algebra II, students completed a unit on function operations, compositions, and inverses by connecting mathematical concepts to everyday scenarios; from combining store discounts to understanding changing measurements in the real world. In Biology, students brought abstract scientific concepts to life by creating DNA models and designing organisms to demonstrate the principles of Mendelian Genetics.
Students were also encouraged to connect learning to personal growth and future planning. In 12th-grade Health, students explored the role hormones play in physical and mental well-being, building a stronger understanding of how the body supports overall health.
In 11th-grade College Prep, students began reflecting on future careers through personality and aptitude assessments that encouraged thoughtful consideration of their interests and goals.
Whether analyzing text, building models, solving equations, or reflecting on values, students are continually being invited to engage with learning in ways that are meaningful, relevant, and lasting. At Chaviva, education is not only about acquiring knowledge; it’s about developing thoughtful young women who know how to connect that knowledge to life.
