CHAVIVA CONNECTIONS

Holiday Highlights: Purim to Pesach at Chaviva

Updated: Apr 24

At Chaviva, we embrace each holiday with a sense of excitement and meaningful learning, and this year’s Purim and Pesach celebrations were no exception. From the laughter and creativity of Purim to the thoughtful reflection leading up to Pesach, our students experienced both holidays in ways that were joyful, inspiring, and deeply connected to tradition.

This year’s Purim Chagiga was a lively celebration, filled with laughter, energy, and plenty of spirit. Hadassa Elkan and Kayla Goldish, together with Devorah Kraut, organized a fantastic program that had the whole school buzzing. The highlight was an original Purim Spiel—written by students and performed by teachers—that reimagined the Purim story with school-themed twists and humor. From Mrs. Berkowitz as Principal Achashverosh to Mrs. Schabes’ unforgettable Vashti, the performance had everyone laughing and cheering. Students also packed mishloach manos to share with local schools and shuls, spreading Purim joy beyond our walls. The Chagiga ended on a thoughtful note with a beautiful dvar Torah from Mrs. Wolman, reflecting on the deeper meaning of the month of Adar.

As Purim came to a close, the energy at Chaviva shifted towards Pesach preparation, with students diving into both the physical task of cleaning and the intellectual work of learning. The week leading up to Pesach was packed with thoughtful activities, culminating in our much-anticipated annual Pesach Yom Iyun. Organized by Mrs. Devorah Kraut and led by student heads Hadassah Elkan and Kayla Goldish, the day offered a chance to slow down and reflect on the upcoming holiday. We began with a delicious waffle bar—a final indulgence in chametz before turning our attention to the meaning behind the Seder.

The learning focused on the three core parts of the Seder: Pesach, Matzah, and Maror, with insightful talks by Mrs. Kraut, Mrs. Naama Rosenbaum, and Mrs. Elana Tenenbaum. Each speaker offered a fresh perspective and practical takeaway, making the themes of the Seder feel personal and relevant. Afterward, students created inspiration boards based on the day's ideas, reflecting on what they wanted to carry into Yom Tov. The day concluded with a spirited kumsitz led by Mrs. Rochie Koval, leaving everyone with a sense of energy and connection that will carry them through the holiday.

These moments remind us that at Chaviva, each holiday is more than a celebration—it’s a chance to grow, connect, and carry meaning forward. We’re proud to see our students engage so deeply, bringing heart and intention to every step of the journey.
