Under the thoughtful leadership of Mrs. Wolman and Lev heads, Leila Ganz and Nuni Peltz, Chaviva High School students recently enjoyed a meaningful and memorable Rosh Chodesh Iyar trip to the zoo. Although a bit belated, the outing tied beautifully into the school’s ongoing Rosh Chodesh theme: exploring the days of creation.
This month, the focus turned to the sixth day, when Hashem created animals and mankind. What better place to reflect on that day than among the incredible variety of creatures at the zoo? Leila and Nuni set the tone with a thoughtful presentation on Perek Shira, the ancient text in which each element of creation offers its unique song of praise to Hashem. Their words encouraged the girls to look beyond the surface of what they were seeing and instead reflect on the deeper messages each animal expresses about the beauty and intricacy of the world.
Throughout the trip, students had the opportunity to observe, learn, and wonder—connecting the physical world around them with spiritual insight. Whether watching a lion bask in the sun or a monkey swing through the trees, the girls were reminded that every part of creation has a voice and a purpose.
The zoo visit served as both an educational experience and a spiritual recharge. It was a reminder that when we take time to notice nature, we are invited to appreciate the vastness of Hashem’s wisdom and kindness. From the smallest creature to the most majestic beast, each animal inspires awe—and each encounter is a chance to strengthen our connection to the Creator.
This trip not only highlighted the beauty of the natural world but also reinforced the school’s mission of nurturing thoughtful, spiritually engaged students who find meaning in every corner of life.
