Collaboration Day

Chaviva High School recently hosted our annual Collaboration Day, a special event designed to immerse students in unique learning experiences. This year’s theme centered around Truth and Bias, aligning with our overarching IPBL (Interdisciplinary Project-Based Learning) program. Teachers from different disciplines worked together to present dynamic and thought-provoking lessons that encouraged students to explore these complex concepts through multiple lenses.

The day began with an inspiring session led by Mrs. Nathan, titled “Moshe Emes, v’Toraso Emes.” Students engaged in three interactive learning groups, each exploring a different aspect of the truth of Torah:

  • Torah as Water: In this group, students examined how Torah, like water, takes the shape of the vessel that contains it. Through hands-on experiments, they observed how different vessels influence the way water is poured, serving as a metaphor for how Torah is applied in diverse situations and by different individuals.

  • The Divine Nature of Torah: Another group delved into the eighth of the Rambam’s 13 Ikrei Emunah, analyzing the implications of Torah’s Divine origin and how that reality shapes our understanding of truth.

  • Confetti and Conflict: The third group used the process of making confetti as a visual representation of the seemingly conflicting opinions within Torah study. Just as individual confetti pieces contribute to a complete design, diverse perspectives in Torah create a fuller, more profound understanding of truth.

In the second session of the morning, students turned their attention to truth in the world of mathematics and science. Divided into smaller teams, they conducted experiments and analyzed data to uncover the role of truth in statistics, research, and empirical evidence. Through these activities, students grappled with the concept of bias in data collection and interpretation, learning how numbers and findings can be shaped by perspective and methodology.

Collaboration Day not only reinforced critical thinking and analytical skills but also fostered a sense of curiosity and engagement. By integrating Torah, science, and mathematics, students gained a deeper appreciation for how truth is pursued and perceived across disciplines.

We look forward to continuing these meaningful explorations throughout the year as we further our discussions on Truth and Bias in our IPBL program!
